'Nude in Playboy? I don't think so!'

Since the launch of their first single Wanna Get Up the girls of 2 Unlimited said they didn't have boyfriends. But blonde Romy is tired of to pretend being single. She confesses to Break Out!: ' I'm having a boyfriend for 10 years and everyone may know it now.'

Why did you lie about being single?

'Marion and I took that decision at the beginning of our singing career. Together with the record company and the management we decided to keep silent about us having a boyfriend. We first wanted to see how everything would go around 2 Unlimited.'

Then why do you tell it now?

'I couldn't take it any longer. Everyone may know I have a boyfriend! I really hated it that he had to read interviews in which I'm saying I'm still single. His friends and colleagues also found these statements a bit odd, because they all know I'm with him for ten years now.'

That's a long time!

'Yeah, it is, isn't it? We're together from when I was sixteen! On our first date we went to the fair on the Dam in Amsterdam. He bought a 10-ride ticket for the Ferris Wheel. When we were at the top, he suddenly got something to drink and to eat from under his coat. That was so cute! We've picnicked for five rounds in the Ferris Wheel. It was love at first sight!'

Does he these romantic things more often?

'He sure does! On our third date, I was kind of stupefied. He copied a photograph from a casting book of mine in secret. Before that time he didn't know I was a model. We decided to go to his house and when I entered his room, I saw a framed picture of me hanging on the wall! Then I really thought he might be my prince on the white horse!'

Are you still a model?

'I'm still listed at a modelling agency. But nowadays I almost don't have any time for an assignment . It should be a fun assignment anyway. Or I should have a lot of money afterwards, otherwise I don't even arrange time for it. I'm already so busy with 2 Unlimited!'

How old were you when you first stood on the catwalk?

'I walked my first fashion show when I was thirteen, but that was more of a hobby than a job. I've never been a professional mannequin, I was too short with my 1.70 metres (5.6 ft). From the age of eighteen, I've started modelling. I especially loved the assignments abroad. One time I was in South Africa, then another time in Chicago.'

You must have earned a lot of money with it?

'Oh well, it was kind of a job on the side that paid quite good. I also made some money with performances at parties etc.'

What did you do at those parties?

'My friend Maroeska and I were a band together that was called Voice 2 Voice. We only sang covers. We had the greatest fun. The band still exists, only someone else has taken over my place. In the meanwhile, I've made a few singles of my own, one of those on the label of Ray Slijngaard.'

How did you come in the world of music?

'I have my passion for music from my mother. She is an opera singer and sent me to singing lessons at a very young age.'

And you liked that?!

'Contrary to other children, I liked opera very much. It is demanding though. You always have to have your voice in great condition. That means going to bed early, talking quietly, no smoking, and so on... I couldn't carry on with that in the long run.'

Being model is also demanding? Then you live on carrots and water only!

'I eat everything and I've always did. Mannequins need to be skinnier than models, those are really 'bone-storehouses'. I just eat whipped cream pie, apple pie and 'dropjes' (liquorice)'

Would you ever 'renovate' something of your body?

'I have nothing against plastic surgery. But at this moment I don't need it, I think. Maybe when I'm older and deterioration begins. Removing some wrinkles here and there, maybe. But I'll never do a facelift. That's a too big operation for me.'

Daphne Deckers went nude in Playboy. And you?

'That magazine has asked it twice, but I refused. It's nothing for me. What others do, they may decide for themselves, but I don't feel at ease with it. And certainly not my father!'

Then does he buy the whole edition?

'No, not that really. But he would really mind it when the greengrocer or baker would have me naked on the toilet wall. I can't do that to the poor man. But I would go undressed for something like those commercials for baby care products. That's innocent nude.'

Don't you like being a sex symbol?

'No, that's fine with me. With 2 Unlimited, men probably see us as sex symbols. That's alright with me. And besides, you can't stop that anyway. But I do not consider myself being a sex symbol. When I look in the mirror, I see Romy and I don't think like: wow, what a sexy girl!!'

Who do you consider sexy?

'Joaquin Cortés, that flamenco dancer. Naomi Campbell did a suicide attempt for him. Well, I guess he must be very nice then.'

Is 2 Unlimited a leg up to a solo career?

'Maybe yes, maybe no. You don't know where this leads to. What I do know is that I'll never sing in a girls group. With the two of us, that's the max, that's sociable. With four girls, it's going to be a disaster. But I think I'll like it going solo. So who knows.'

For what reason would you quit?

'Only when I'm tired of the music. But I can't imagine that now. I really enjoy it with 2 Unlimited. All my dreams have come true.'
